Using an old (and defective) Mistral Toaster, designer Stephen King created the Arrow Toaster as a part of his 3rd year project. Using the signature style of award-winning, multi-disciplinary consumer product design firm Smart Design, King redesigned the toaster using the symbol of the arrow as a starting point in the design’s function, the concept being that everything is led by the direction this arrow is pointing.

For example, the arrow pointer on the temperature control indicates heat setting, etc. Also by turning the angle of the cavity 45 degrees, the toaster gets a distinctive aesthetic as well allowing more misshapen bread slices to be toasted without the worry of losing them within the depths of the toaster.
