Designer Ming Tong admits at having a great sense of humor and no wonder this is reflected in his designs. The Drawbone conceptualized by him is actually a highlighter pen fashioned as a bone. The youthful concept ensures that it will be a hit amongst the students; after all it’s them who use highlighters the most. The bone can obviously confuse your pet, but as a decoy it can offer hours of amusement as well. As young people accessorize almost anything, I like the hip way the model has used the pen as a neck-tag. It reminds me of my college days when my pens used to invariably slip out of my bag. Tagged around my neck like seen here, a bone would have looked classy on me too! Her

Given the rate at which attention spans of modern man is decreasing, I guess it’s not too outlandish to conceptualize hyper-computerized racecars for the future. And that’s perhaps the only reason why the Monza Ferrari racecar concept created by designer Iman Maghsoudi makes so much sense.

For the respect we have for creativity, innovation is always given a red-carpet treatment. But a punch of style and knock of feasibility should cling to such innovation if it craves to win accolades from the masses. Such thoughts happen to run through my mind when I first laid my eyes on this twisted ball of nylon ropes, which apparently claims to be a piece of seating. Tom Price came up with a line of ‘Melt-Down’ chairs by melting different plastics with a seat-shaped mold. No traces of upholstery which means your lower body will not experience heavenly comfort here. Not much of rocket science is involved in its making; a recess is created in the middle of a clustered polypropylene rope by means of a heated seat-shaped object. The end-result is a contrast-colored seating space on a stockpile of ropes. You could have your own doubts whether this would actually function as a chair and for looks, I already have my thumbs down!

Design is one of the most important aspects of car-making for it’s where the making of a car begins as they say it all begins on a paper and ends when the wheels are affixed. To get more and more customers to buy a particular car, the design plays a very vital role indeed, for only the ones who know what they want buy a car of their choice and for the others, choice means a good design. In the times to come, car-designing would head towards a different domain where design with multiple benefits would be preferred. At that point in time designers like Marek Kedzierski and Michal Vlček would be hailed for their creations such as the NASA Concept Car. Ask me what is special about the design-well, it is the ability to rotate 360 degrees with extreme ease that inturn enables the car to be driven sideways. The only problem (which would hopefully be taken care off in the future) is the way the head is left outside, where the rest of the body is immersed in the car. The immediate solution could be the use of helmets but then it is supposed to be a car, a confusing automobile future beckons! More Images after the Jump.

No matter how lavish your dining table may be it can never compete with television unless you’ve installed one near it. The constant squabble in my abode is on this point; I insist on sitting and eating on the dining table but my kids and husband insist on breaking bread in the living room in front of our TV. More often than not, I succumb to their whim and serve them meals on trays. Industrial designer Ben Collette sure has inkling to such situations; thus his OF concept would be a boon to mothers like me, who would love to have their children eat their meals in a proper fashion, even if it means having it in front of the TV.

I am a beach bum and my buddies and I try and head over to the beckoning sun, sands and surf wherever possible. I have vacationed in many corners of the world and have invariably incorporated the beach-scene as well. Bondi to Mombasa, they all have one thing in common, ample golden grains! This turf demands comfortable seating and plenty of shade, while you spend hours lazing and reading a book or catching the latest tunes. Designer Yonatan Zur has fashioned this cool pin-up beach chair and umbrella holder that looks to have a promising future.

In large public arenas space is always at a premium and lack of seating is noticeable. Malls, piers, quays, stations, or galleries, all offer maximum standing place, but do little for accommodating tired feet. It’s not entirely their fault; thus far there was no practical space-saving seating alternative available than chairs and benches. However designer Robert Öhman has crafted out a nifty solution with his Pipedream seating system from LYX. The Pipedream can be conveniently placed lining the wall or kept stand-alone at the center of the room. Using high-density foams the seating and legs can be fitted with a variety of material options, depending upon where you want to place them.

Sigourney Weaver gave a stellar performance in the movie Aliens, it even won her an Oscar nomination in the Best Actress category. After so many years, re-living this cult film in an eccentric fashion with this exclusive Aliens Chess Set, heralds the mania that it stirs up. Pitting space marines against the aliens, the chess game recreates the battle between the queen alien and the marines out to get her. Totally inspired by this James Cameron classic, even the board resembles the metal floor of the space station in the movie. Ellen Ripley’s side of the board takes on the space station avatar while Alien Queen’s side looks just like it’s being taken over by the menacing brood. Beneath the Chessboard, there is a storage compartment to house the precious alien and marines figurines. Playing a game with the Grand Masters on such a unique board will be precious.

With very little technical details at hand, and at the cost of gushing about a menacing skull this DVD player is good enough to spook most girls. The glowing red embers of eyes really add a ghostly look and are freaking me out. I can picture myself walking into a dark room and finding two dark red eyes staring at me. I probably would run out of the room screaming!

I understand the need of a handsfree feature for a cell phone or landline. You can yak with pals as you go about your chores or exercise regime. At such time you don’t need to keep your hands occupied to focus on something. But the idea of handsfree camera sounds shaky….. shooting shaky images and videos! However Johan Frossen begs to differ and conceived a camera that can be worn around your neck. Working on this concept, in collaboration with Sony Erricson and targeting young parents, the designer has fitted it with a fisheye lenze that can capture everything that comes in its way. Sporting a wireless connection, the film can be stored in your cell phone where it can be composed in to a non fisheye format. This eliminates the need to focus on composing while you film and in turn keep your hands free.

Isn’t it natural to walk in the house and expect your family to identify with frame of mind? Its utter human to expect others to act in accordance with your mood. But alas, your teen is discourteous, spouse too busy to notice any mood change and pet sleeping away to glory. For such times, trust this avant-garde techie invention to step in to lend a hand for such dilemma too. The very thought of Antarctica brings to mind the harsh icy terrain. I wonder how people manage to do their scientific expeditions in sub-zero conditions. Hostile conditions ensure that apart from a variety of penguins, whales and fur seals, no other animal is found there. However mankind is such that he strives to venture into the unknown and in the past several years many Governments have set up explorations to discover the true essence of Antarctic. This Concept Ice Vehicle by Lotus was also developed for one such expedition; the Moon Regan TransAntarctic Expedition. Understanding that fragile ecology is at stake, Lotus has used biofuel to power the vehicle. Apart from this, the body takes support of three spiked skis and has a propeller on the nose to give it more thrust.

Summer is at its peak and the great outdoors just beg you to come and embrace all the goodness of nature. But most of us pass a chance to go camping just because we cannot bear to eat canned food for a whole weekend and are too lazy to find food in the jungle and go through the messy routine of cooking outside. But the all new Field Cooker created by designer Stefani Santilli might just change that forever.

There’s a reason why Spanish designer Jamie Hayon is so famous. His previous works of passion includes a bathtub, champagne bucket and bowl, but this current view has to be his most impeccable attempt at style. Fashioned from Suryln (used in molded items), the bar and lampshade combo is reminiscent of the psychedelic era of the 80’s. the bold red color could have easily been an eyesore, considering the fact that bold colors on large pieces of furniture gives a constricting illusion. But the red supersedes all boundaries and becomes the character of the piece. The clever textured finish of the lampshade agrees with the entire concept and gives it a distinguished look. I usually don’t indulge in such bulky furniture, lack of space not withstanding. but given a choice, I would definitely vote this Champagne Bar and Lamp, ten on ten!

If using a laptop is a great joy when compared to using bulky desktops, many of us don’t like the touchpad or the joystick in the laptop. We always prefer the good old mouse. However, the mouse isn’t designed to fit a laptop case and hence, defeats the purpose of mobility. Logitech has designed a cool new V550 Nano mouse that provides a clip-and-Go dock. It is designed to stick to the laptop case to which you can clip the cordless mouse to the outside before you decide to go somewhere. The laptop is also designed to provide better scrolling with it’s rapid-scroll wheel and other such technical goodies. The mouse looks sleek and stylish and is also functional at the same time. A shortcoming could be that the laptop carrying bags are tight and may not adjust well to the stuck mouse. However, at the rumored price of $39.99, this great design of a mouse is a pleasant surprise from Logitech to laptop users.
