Frog Design’s facemask is a great alternative to cosmetic surgery in future. ‘frogConcept: A Digital Escape” is the concept for a more polluted earth. This facemask is designed to enable an individual to live with the mess that humanity would have inflicted. Trying to cope with the various ailments that would surely afflict earth, technology has to be at the forefront, but to escape from such realities too it would help. frogConcept is an alternative skin, playing host to a host of computing systems. It is a virtual layer to “re-skin” the world outside.

digital_escape_1_thumb_d7KYD_3858

The device would enable the wearer to perceive the world as he wants it to be. Within this mask, smells, sounds, even air quality would be controlled to create a virtual experience. It would be a diversion from normal physical interaction that humans crave so much. Even so, the facial expressions from behind the mask would be projected in form of avatars that’d be visible to others. A gateway to impersonal robotic appearance, frogConcept is something very much possible in the days of future.

The Backpack Inflatable Pontoon Boat: Stylish, portable and durable http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/the-backpack-inflatable-pontoon-boat-stylish-and-portable/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/the-backpack-inflatable-pontoon-boat-stylish-and-portable/#comments anwesha the-backpack-inflatable-pontoon-boat_KjXv9_7860
The Backpack Inflatable Pontoon Boat would look as if you are carrying around an unusually big backpack, that’s all. Nobody is going to suspect that the backpack has a pontoon boat, oars and a foot pump stashed into it. Yup, that’s right. This 42 lb., 96.0 x 55.0 x 29.5 backpack, when opened, transforms into an 8” inflatable pontoon boat as if by magic. It has everything you can expect a pontoon boat to have.

The armrest storage consists of a large middle pocket, two sloped gear pockets, four end mesh pockets and an inset drink pocket. The foam fly patch is conveniently detachable. The fully padded seat makes it a comfortable seat and conforms to the body contours. Also, no matter what the length of your legs are, the footrests adjust to them fine.

What’s better, the pontoons have abrasion-resistant PVC bottoms and tough nylon tops, making it wonderfully durable. The heavy-duty steel oar locks and sturdy three-piece 6′ aluminum oars are the best anybody can ask for.

The Pontoon has a capacity of as much as 350 lb. and are perfect for river rafting. The designers have also thrown in a spacious top pocket, two bottom rod/oar pockets, rear elastic cord gear attachment system and dual side rod or rod-case holders. And carrying around the backpack isn’t a struggle, thanks to a fully padded lumbar rest, adjustable shoulder straps and hip belt. The Backpack Inflatable Pontoon Boat carries a modest price tag of $237.54.

Four stools by Anna Bullus create Five! http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/four-stools-by-anna-bullus-create-five/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/four-stools-by-anna-bullus-create-five/#comments gagan annabullus_f1_1mnac_3858

Illusory is the closest that one could get to describing Five by Anna Bullus. This one is ‘optical’ furniture: designed to create optical illusion whilst being functional. Five is a set of four stools that can be placed in various configurations to create a larger stool. Each one of these stools is designed to function independently as a small seating or side table. Bring these together, however, and you have a much larger fifth stool at hand. Pleasure to behold and fun to play with, Five is an ingenious creation. The designer makes these to order and any interested user can visit her site for more info.

Right! If this is what our cars and bikes are gonna look like in the future, I definitely think I’ll be better off taking the bus or walking on my own two feet for sure. I mean I do give Andrew Leinonen full points for innovating on the Segway, but the Gemini Personal Transportation System sure looks more like what they might use in prisons to torture troublesome inmates than what I’d like to drive around town in. I’m impressed with how the designer used gyro sensors in tandem with an electric motor to stabilize the bulky structure on two wheels, but this thing looks way too crampy since I’m guessing its supposed to shut up around you like a body armor which again seems very cool in theory but might not be practicable in real life when you just want to stretch your legs and relax a little bit after a whole day spent at the office!

The chair seems to be ‘Missing’! http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/the-chair-seems-to-be-missing/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/the-chair-seems-to-be-missing/#comments gagan 1-11_zlSe8_58

Minimalist designs always seem a bit devoid of that zing. But Missing Chair is one piece of furniture that’ll leave you astounded, and then some more. The Missing Chair plays around with the basic form of a chair and delivers eccentricity. Actually Missing Chair is a misnomer in that it actually is Missing Chairs, being a collection of seven chairs. Each of these seven chairs is different from the others; maybe subtly so. Also they can be arranged to form different angular compositions, even a bench. Conceived from an idea that a solitary chair rarely exists alone but is always a part of collection of chairs, the Missing Chair is a bit of individuality that living rooms in general lack. Each chair measures 47×47cm and h.77cm. They are lacquered and tubular and the sitting plates are interchangeable with felt option. Together the Missing Chairs promise to create an optical illusion around your table. The Missing Chairs is an effort by Nobody&Co.

Functional art: Ring Series by Giancarlo Zema http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/functional-art-ring-series-by-giancarlo-zema/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/functional-art-ring-series-by-giancarlo-zema/#comments Asmita 2_4nN6G_1333
Designed by the Giancarlo Zema Design Group, the Ring Series of tables, chair and stools was commissioned by Giovannetti collections. The design forms a meeting point of the sculptural and functional elements that create storage space for small items like bags and magazines all the while being extremely lightweight making them excellent for usage in the home, in offices as well pubs and restaurants. Created as homage to the English sculptor Henry Moore, the design oozes with timelessness and sets forth a flow of dynamism with its mere presence in a room.

Hot Streak Kettle’s a whiff of ceramic-fresh air http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/hot-streak-kettle-s-a-whiff-of-ceramic-fresh-air/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/hot-streak-kettle-s-a-whiff-of-ceramic-fresh-air/#comments gagan hot-streak-kettle_ds87e_58
In the age of electric kettles employing cold steel, a concept that employs ceramic is a breath of fresh air. And this is exactly what Gareth Battensby’s Hot Streak Kettle is all about. Traditional in its outlook and modern in its design, the Hot Streak Kettle is a wonderfully designed kitchenware. This concept kettle is a part of Gareth’s university project seeking to use ceramic in innovative manner. Dazzling in design and vibrant in color, the Hot Streak Kettle developed over a seven-week period. We are especially fond of the innovative use of ceramic in the kettle’s making. Gareth has designed this in the form of a honeycomb structure that improves surface area of the heating element. Ultimately this translates into a more even and quicker spread of heat. Another design element is the incorporation of a system of three movable elements that the users can adjust as per the amount of water that’s being boiled. This would save the energy that bit more. Hot Streak Kettle is an efficient concept; not only does it look remarkable, but it backs the looks with substance. Kudos to the designer! Another picture of the Hot Streak Kettle follows.

Optimize your time with TaskWatch http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/optimize-your-time-with-taskwatch/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/optimize-your-time-with-taskwatch/#comments gagan taskwatch_01_xn78j_3858

Whatever your take on the tech-loaded daily planners, a whiteboard holds a distinct charm and utility when it comes to leaving little reminders for self or others. It is hassle-free, cheap and quick. TaskWatch is an improvement on the traditional whiteboard in that it has an analog clock put in the center to add time dimension to the daily reminder notes. Designed by the Russian studio Art. Lebedev, TaskWatch is a simple write-on/wipe-off panel that stands in at 90 × 60 cm (36″ x 24″). This entire area can be used for writing stuff. The panel is mounted on the wall and standard markers in various colors can be used to write messages across the relevant hour. TaskWatch comes in two versions: one for home use and the other for use in an office. While the former has a complete round analog clock, the latter has got the standard 9-to-6 figures. Time management and communication gets quite easy with TaskWatch around. The only hitch that remains is its price. Priced at $202.70, it is quite expensive than a normal whiteboard and a clock put together. But on the flip side, it does come around with marker racks, marker, magnets, and cleaner. Super-versatile Parenthetical Shelves http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/super-versatile-parenthetical-shelves/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/super-versatile-parenthetical-shelves/#comments Asmita fo_slideshelv_01_zmsyV_1333

Everybody loves a good set of shelves holing up their goodies for display. But a lot of the times people find themselves getting bored of designs that remain rather monotonous installation onwards and offer the users no room for alterations and variation. Which is why these Parenthetical Shelves are just so astonishing. Mounted on a set of rails, the shelves can be moved around to create stunning combinations of open-ended and box-type shelves. Just a slide of a pair of parentheses is enough to dramatically alter the look of the whole room. Perfect for both conservative and experimental set ups, the Parenthetical Shelves truly astounds with its contemporary line of thought.

Snowbag: Funky portable snow seat http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/snowbag-the-funky-portable-snow-seat/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/snowbag-the-funky-portable-snow-seat/#comments Asmita 20070319-175503-1_gtDtK_1333
How big a moron do you have to be to sit in the snow while you have your lunch? Anyway, I think there are a lot of people out there who habitually make the unmindful mistake of sitting in the snow to have a snack when they go snowboarding. I personally don’t know any who cannot find a log to place their behinds on for the purpose but I guess the problem was huge enough to prompted designer Clement Eloy of the design studio FeelAddicted, to create this portable snow seat that can be carried as a backpack when you hit the slopes and once opened, offers a sorta comfy dry seat for you to have enjoy your sandwich. The designer doesn’t mention whether or not the bag can potentially be life-threatening if and when a boarder took a nasty fall on the mountain, but if you still wanna lug around a rigid bulky seat on your next snowboarding trip, then this Snowbag is surely your best bet.

You don’t necessarily have to be a total loon to seat on this stupendously designed sofa. Although tongues might surely wag if you decides to get something like this in your living room! The Twisted Sofa created by Nina Edwards Anker, the lead designer of Nea Studio is one of the more unusual pieces that will be exhibited in the Seating category at the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in New York between 17 and 20th May. The sofa belongs to the company’s Arctic line with its stunning L-shape integrating daybed as well as a seat. The overlapping design sets the seat apart both in the actual living space as well as the beholder’s imagination and opens up a new dimension of interpretation within the set up. The seats and the backrests are done in both hard and soft foams and the piece is upholstered in a more flexible fabric to lend the seat an overall semblance of elasticity, making it a perfect addition to any contemporary living room setup.

ECON: An innovative way to save water http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/econ-an-innovative-way-to-save-water/ http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/econ-an-innovative-way-to-save-water/#comments jayprashanth econo_C242P_15699
Water, the precious resource without which no life would exist is becoming precious by the day. You too can do your bit to save some water with the ECON. No, we aren’t talking about a rain water harvesting technique. We are talking about a design concept from the Spanish eco-design firm which will radically help you save up to fifty percent of water while you water your plants. The ECON concept takes inspiration from a rather unusual source in the Namibian desert beetle. This desert beetle recovers water from a special movement of it’s shell. Replicating this beetle’s shell, the ECON basically acts as a place for the evaporating water to condense. The condensed water then gets routed back to the pot thus saving a lot of water, which would otherwise have evaporated back to the atmosphere. The ECON comes across a very innovative concept that definitely deserves to be replicated in a large scale in water deficient regions of our planet.

For people who like to add drama to their living spaces and like the décor of one room to stand in harmony with the adjacent one without contrasting too much, Japanese born and Barcelona-based product designer Hiroshi Tsunoda has come up with this delightful JOYN curtain that can serve as a beautiful wall hanging curtain as well as a room divider. An aesthetic solution to separate environments, JOYN from Design Code is composed of small hexagonal modular pieces that can be joined together in limitless dimensions to create an enigmatic yet porous screen to be enjoyed from both sides. By combining simplicity with geometric patterns and ecological materials like paper and recyclable plastics, Tsunoda is able to create an optical illusion of pervasive space inside any room.

I really didn’t understand why the designer of this thing decided to call it the U-Turn Sofa since it neither offers a turn-about nor does it look like a u-turn symbol! I guess its just one of those marketing tricks to lure people into purchasing things more on hype than on merit. Which is actually quite sad because I think that this gorgeous seat created by Geir Sætveit for Martela has tremendous style potential of its own. The ergonomic design of this seat is very flattering as a standalone piece that can be freely combined with other furniture to create a dramatic effect in any living room or public space. At the extreme ends, the sofa allows users to use the back as armrest and sit facing backwards as well making it perfect for when you have a lot of people over for a party or get-together.
